CMS Organises Informative Workshop on ‘Healthy Heart’

Lucknow : An informative and highly engaging workshop on the topic ‘Healthy Heart’ was organised today at the City Montessori School Headquarters. The objective of the workshop was to spread awareness about heart health, prevention of cardiac diseases, and to train CMS staff in life-saving emergency measures such as CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation). The session was conducted by Prof. Aditya Kapoor, Head of the Department of Cardiology at SGPGI, Lucknow.

Earlier, CMS Manager Prof. Geeta Gandhi warmly welcomed Prof. Aditya Kapoor and stated that heart-related emergencies are a harsh reality in today’s times, and even a delay of one minute can prove fatal. She emphasized that awareness and correct knowledge about such situations are extremely important in society, especially among students and the younger generation, so that lives can be saved in time.

On this occasion, Dr. Kapoor expressed his gratitude to the CMS management and said that CMS is highly sensitive towards the health and well-being of its students, teachers, and staff. He appreciated that Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machines have been installed at CMS, which are extremely effective in saving the lives of cardiac arrest patients.

During the workshop, Dr. Kapoor provided detailed information on Sudden Cardiac Arrest. He explained that cardiac arrest is related to the electrical system of the heart, in which the heartbeat becomes irregular and blood circulation stops. If treatment is not provided within 3–4 minutes, the condition can become life-threatening. He also clarified the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest, stating that a heart attack is caused by blockage in blood vessels, whereas cardiac arrest occurs suddenly and often without warning. He further added that this condition can affect anyone, regardless of age.

The highlight of the workshop was the CPR training session, where participants were trained in providing immediate assistance during emergencies. CMS staff were practically taught how to identify cardiac arrest and perform CPR effectively. Dr. Kapoor informed that with every minute of delay, the chances of survival decrease by approximately 10%.““In addition, the workshop covered major risk factors for heart diseases such as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle. Special emphasis was laid on smoking as a major controllable risk factor, and the benefits of quitting it were highlighted. Dr. Kapoor also stressed the importance of a balanced diet and adequate water intake while explaining cholesterol and dietary awareness.

CMS Head of Communications,  Rishi Khanna, stated that this workshop is part of CMS’s continuous efforts to ensure a safe and high-quality environment for all teachers, students, and staff members. He further informed that CMS regularly organises workshops related to safety, facilities, health, and education.
